"Worcester 6"
This watercolor sketch is taking from a black and white newspaper photo of brave Worcester, MA, USA firefighters . Because of this warehouse fire, it is very sad to write, six heroic firefighters lost their lives. This image is of a few of the men stopping and paying respects while their comrades were taken out of the building. It was a very sad day for all residents of Massachusetts and New England. I left the painting unfinished because I was too sad to continue at the time. As I was working on it today I decided to leave it unfinished. I am not sure why. God bless firefighters.
It is a work full of feeling. Connect with the work of contemporary artists. It is important that the paint contains a message. An artist's thought. The painting is between the artist and the audience. I think that the artist puts the work, and people know what you think the artist looking at the work.
ReplyDeleteYour painting is sincere and of great heart. Break continents and cultures.

Ricardo!
DeleteThank you so much for your very kind and inspirational words.
You message has helped me to again realize the importance of art in this world.
it is still wonderful and very hard for me to imagine that we artists are allowed to "show" our art all over the world because of the internet! It is amazing and makes me very happy.
Again, thank you very much.
Your USA art friend,
Michael
It's a wonderful painting Michael. You've expressed in paint your sadness of the loss of those brave men. I think that's why you decided to leave it unfinished. The ghostly white notes the missing heros. This is a very special piece.
ReplyDeleteLinda,

I'm very moved by this imagery and your words. Your heartfelt sadness comes through. I am glad that you painted this--it is about as poignant as any tribute I've ever seen. Really touches a chord.

A very powerful piece, Michael. I believe your sadness permeates this painting and leaving it unfinished adds even greater depth to its meaning. I agree with Linda - this is, indeed, a very special piece.
ReplyDeleteSusan,
ReplyDeleteIt is always wonderful to hear from you. I very much appreciate your very kind words. The power of art still amazes me. I I know most of my work seems to be "directed" by the painting itself and that is intriguing.
Again, thank you for writing. I feel blessed to be able to make art and have others understand and even appreciate my efforts.
I am looking forward to your next wonderful work.
Take care.
Michael
This is so moving! I remember that horrible fire and the devastation it caused in so many lives. This is a nice tribute to those who sacrifice for us on a daily basis.
ReplyDeleteJoan,
ReplyDeleteThank you for writing such very kind words.
You are so right about firefighters sacrificing for us each and every day!
Heroic,courageous and so much more.
Thanks again Joan.

Your art buddy,

It is a very powerful work in part because it's unfinished and in part because of the strong strokes that reflect an equally strong emotional content.
ReplyDeleteThank you so very much Shirley. Your comments are enlightening and appreciated.
ReplyDeleteOften while making art I am not aware of the painting decisions I make. It may sound odd to others but many times while I am making art my emotions, the subject matter, and the painting itself direct my actions. Interesting and intriguing I think. I guess that could sum up my creative process.
Again, thanks for stopping by and writing such perceptive comments.
Your art buddy,
Michael
Great work Michael. The emotions felt so sincerely, the somber palette, slashes of the brush, various angles of the fireman's heads give them sadness and pride for their fallen comrades.
ReplyDeleteI think it is far better unfinished as you did. It brings to mind the 'missing man formation' flyover's in the military, paying their respects by leaving a void in their formation.
You have done the same here in your painting.
David!
ReplyDeleteThank you for writing. I very much appreciate your sincere comments. You astute observations are very meaningful to me. The painting will stay "unfinished".
Keep painting.
Michael
I just happen to pass by and had to stop to look twice. Quite powerful painting, bursting with emotion. Provokes a lot of questions! Fine work really.
