"MFA Boston Art Class"

I love going to the Museum Of Fine Arts in Boston for art classes.

"Appeal To The Great Spirit" at the Huntington Avenue Entrance to Boston Museum Of Fine Arts.

I didn't have time to visit many galleries but I did make time to see some of Turner's work.
Turner is one of my many, many favorite artists!

Still life from MFA class by me! Very quick study in basic colors. Fun for me because I seldom do still lifes!

Still life set up in my studio for MFA homework!

(I never realized how much paint is on my tables!)

First stage of self portrait.  I used a clay bust of myself  I did as undergraduate in 1970 as a reference.
Almost done!  Hard to do self portrait from clay sculpture.  Fun though!
I keep this bust of myself on the floor of my studio to hang up my music headphones.  I have to add the wires and do a bit more then, "Voila!"

  1. Hi Michael,
Did you know that self portrait looks suspiciously like you! And so does the clay bust!

    1. It is so very wonderful Hilda! To me it is like a baseball fan being able to play ball at Fenway Park in Boston! Exciting! When the instructor hung up our work, I exclaimed, "My work is hanging in the MFA. All laughed.
Thanks for visiting and writing such wonderful supportive comments.
      Your art buddy,

  4. Love Turner. His watercolors keep me trying watercolors wet into wet andthrowing up my hands in disgust.

Your still life is great. (I like the paintings in the background too). And your painting of it is coming along--maybe even done?

The museum is a wonderful place, it brings out the best in us. --Did I ever tell you I attended a class where not one of the other students plus the artist teacher had never been to the museum. Total shock!!!! I quit. I was with the wrong folks. You are with the right ones. Enjoy.

    1. Hello Linda!
I am so happy that you visited my blog. So very nice to hear from you!
I am glad you also love Turner! He certainly is one of the best! His watercolors certainly are wonderful!
When I was an undergraduate and art professor compared my work to Turner's. At the time I didn't know anything about the artist. Right away I went to an art history book to look up this Turner guy! No internet then! I was amazed at Turner's work and so thrilled at my professor's comment!
I am sorry about your negative "teacher" experience at the museum! I can't imagine anyone who teaches art not going to visit the galleries! Good for you for changing classes and quitting!
Thanks for the comment on my little still life. I feel finished with it! So very hard fro me to know when to stop! So when I even think it is time to stop I do!
I am glad you noticed the paintings in the background. Some of my earlier works. Interesting that they are so close to my workplace they often get spattered with paint. I am leaving that paint on for posterity!
Thanks for all your support Linda!
      Paint on Linda!
      Your art buddy,

    1. Hello Celeste!
Oooooooo is so right! Inspiration is the word! So much fun to be there making art and seeing art! I love every second while I am there! On the commuter train I take into the city I am the only one beaming with excitement and happiness. I try to hide my excitement because most of the other travelers are on their way to work! I am like a little kid on his way to Disney World but in my case even better!
I am glad you like my little still life. A poinsettia is next! Wish me luck!
      Your art buddy,

    1. Hello Shirley!
So very good to hear from you! Thank you so much for stopping by and writing such kind words! I am glad you got a kick out of my clay bust with the headphones. I made that bust for an art project in 1970! Wow! I never could have even dreamed then that I would be "posting" a "digital" photo it on an "art blog" in 2013 for all the world to see! Wow!
I love your art Shirley! You are so very talented. Your paintings are beautiful. A positive comment from you is very meaningful. Thank you!
      Art on my art friend!

    1. Hi Wendy!
I am happy you stopped by! When I posted the photos of Turner's paintings I remembered you asking if I would get a chance to visit the galleries. Well, because of you, I made time to visit them! Thank you!
I am glad you enjoyed the colors. I love color. If I am doing something representational I have to hold back on my excitement of adding color when there is none there!
Art on my Australian art friend,

  8. Hi Michael,
I did enjoy seeing your posts of art from the gallery thank you! I was particularly taken with the magnificent statue "Appeal to the Great Spirit". How glorious!
I was tickled to read how you have to hide your excitement on the train because of the poor people on their way to work. It seems to me that you have learnt how to live your life to the full. Good on you!!
    Good luck with the pointsettia!
