"Some Art And Some Snow!"

Art And Snow This Week!

"East Boston Neighborhood #1"
Acrylic 24" x 36" Canvas

Unfinished
Currently working on a few commissioned works of East Boston Cityscapes!
I love to do the same scene on two different canvas and experiment with various colors and techniques!

"East Boston Neighborhood #2"
Acrylic 24" x 36" Canvas

Unfinished

"East Boston Blue Subway Line"
Canvas Board 18" x 20"
Still working on this piece!

"Colorful East Boston Triple Deckers"
Acrylic Canvas Board 18" x 20"
Unfinished!
Recent record snow storms dropped almost  four feet of snow in our area in less than a week!
Another foot predicted over the weekend!

My brother-in-law's horse loves running in the snow!

Our front door lantern!

Our snow covered road!
This scene is of a huge wave crashing on a seawall on the South Coast of Massachusetts. Snow storms can be so very beautiful and so very dangerous!

One brave soul battled the elements to shovel off the snow from the Boston Marathon Finish Line! We Bostonians certainly think of this site as sacred ground!  I so love the idea that this man wanted to honor the finish line this way!

I  love firefighters!
Eerie not see any vehicles on the streets of Boston!

New England Patriots Superbowl Champions!

Beautiful!

Beautiful!

Home Sweet Home!

  1. Thanks for sharing all your beautiful pictures Michael. Nice to see that brave soul shovelling off the BM finish line! Always such a great idea to work on more than one canvas of the same subject, especially when doing commissions, it keeps the free flow of process going doesn't it?! the subway and triple deckers paintings are exciting too. HOpe you get a break from the snow soon, i know i am getting right sick of it by now.

    1. Hello Sally! I am glad you like the photos. I was thinking maybe I posted a bit too many? I agree about using more than one surface at the same time. I am so happy you like my work. I so appreciate getting comments! Especially from talented artists like yourself! Thank you! NO BREAKS FROM SNOW! Another huge storm coming in tomorrow! Another foot to foot and a half predicted! Hurricane winds! Freezing temperatures! High tides! Wow! Take care and thanks again Sally!

  2. I really enjoy seeing your works in progress Michael! I love the compositions! How fun to be commissioned to paint a subject close to your heart.

The pictures tell the story of the incredible snowstorm. I hope you will have some relief from all this bad weather soon, in the meantime happy painting!

    1. Hello Celia! I am so glad you like to see my works in progress! I am not sure what is going on but I am not "finishing" much art lately! Working on many pieces but none are getting completed! I hate to "force" works. I tell anybody who commissions a work from me I can not promise a delivery date. I can't imagine hurrying to complete a work of art! What do you think? It is so much fun to work on paintings that are so meaningful to me!
No relief from snow in sight! A big storm coming in tomorrow! Worried now about roofs collapsing and power outages! So much more! Also no where to put the excess snow! All that being said, I still love the winter!
Happy Painting to you also my friend!
      Take care Celia!

  3. Wonderful color in the East Boston paintings. They are a joy especially these days when snow has buried all the color around your parts. I am so sorry, but the bright spot is there are no distractions from painting. You're doing a knock out job on those commissions. Your photographs of the Boston Winter of 2015 are sad and beautiful. I especially like the coast as horrifying as that much water rushing the shores must be. It's powerful and amazing. Stay warm friend. Stay painting. I promise Spring is around the corner.

    1. Hello Linda!
I am so happy you notice the color in these works! I went a little bit out of the box with these colors! Most of the buildings were a grey color! Thought I would brighten things up a bit on one of the paintings! I agree with you about the snow! I am wondering how I can love so much snow when it can be so dangerous and still beautiful! I still love the excitement and beauty! So hope all are safe!!!
Thanks for all your wonderful words Linda! (I may post a funny photo of a yellow flowering plant I placed in a snow drift today!!!!)
      Take care Linda!

    1. Hello My Art Buddy Hilda! Thank you for writing to me my friend! Always happy to hear from you! I am so happy you like my art! I so love East Boston and doing cityscapes! I am very much influenced by the New York City Ashcan Movement! Especially the artist John Sloan! I have also missed classes at MFA! That is probably the only thing I dislike about the snow!!! Not really, I feel so badly for how the snow can affect son many people in dangerous and frustrating ways! But I still love the snow!!!! I am glad you like the photos also! I think it is so much fun that we art bloggers share a bit of our little places on the plante!
Take care Hilda! I am looking forward, as always, to your latest work!

  8. A magnificent post Michael!! I thought of you this morning as I walked in the shallows on the beach thinking what a contrast it was to your snow smothered landscape. I also wondered if, even you - snow lover extraordinaire - are getting sick of snow yet?Your photos are spectacular and give a wonderful insight into what it must be like to live in a snowy landscape. From my safe vantage point, it all looks incredibly beautiful. I can never see too many red cardinals and you've captured a wonderful stance with this one.

I LOVE your computer art!! I can see the medium suits your wild, effusive, colourful style perfectly. I also enjoyed seeing your works-in-progress - they are shaping up beautifully. I particularly love the train and the "Colorful, East Boston Triple Deckers"
Congratulations on your commission - how exciting!
I hope you stay safe and warm!!

    1. Hello Mate! G'Day Wendy!
It is so nice to be thought of! Especially on a beach in warm weather! I have been thinking of you lately also with all this snow! It is amazing! Now besides still being so beautiful it is very dangerous! Yesterday I was out "raking snow" off my roof! More than three feet of snow! Lucky so far no power outages! Snowing right now! Another foot and half of snow! Higher drifts! All that being said I still love this beautiful snow! It is like some off the charts magnificent creative artist decided to cover the entire area in white! Just leaving enough not covered for some contrast! The wind is howling right now! I will post photos of all white out conditions! So thankful we still have power! The birds are out trying to navigate in the wind and snow! I also love seeing the red cardinals and off course their friends the female olive green cardinals! Blue Jays are also awesome! I guess all the birds have their distinct beauty!
I am so happy you like my art Wendy! Using the computer to make art is fun! I am starting to learn all the various tools! Glad you like my colorful triple deckers! Too a bit of artistic license with them! Commission is exciting! Challenge is giving client what they want and doing what I think is best?!
So Wendy! To answer your question, I certainly still love the snow! I am not sure how many of my fellow New Englanders feel the same way! Maybe it is the artist in me! Take care Cobber! Enjoy the ocean and beach! I will enjoy it vicariously through you!
      BRRRRRRRRR! But Loving it!

(I wish I could send some snow to you! I bet you would love it! Cold, white, and wonderful!!!!)

Yesterday I was out "raking my roof" more than three feet of snow! Wow! Yet, it is still so very beautiful! Will post a couple photos later! All White!
