"Fighting For The Light" Acrylic 14" x 16" Canvas

"Fighting For The Light"

This morning, while cleaning off my palette, I looked out my studio window at the beautiful winter woods! The forest is very dense with very little sunlight getting through the canopy of branches and evergreens! It occurred to me to use my old and almost dried out paint to try to capture the many wonderful trees vying for the very limited and much needed light!   It has always interested me the way trees and undergrowth seem to compete for the sun's gift!
Today I am happy that I decided to try to capture this sunlight  battle on canvas!
I always scrape off my unused palette paint on canvases to use later as under paint.   Today while I was applying the used paint to the canvas the forest started to appear.  This is the magic I often talk about! This painting was quite a challenge for me because I limited myself to only the paint left on my palette, painted quickly, and used only one brush!  Of course I did use my fingers a bit!
Enjoy the day!

  8. Michael this is AMAZING! You can really see the magic flow coming through in this painting. You have definitely captured the feeling of dense forest with the light filtering through. It reminds me of our tall timber forests in the south west of Western Australia. You've created the light and shadows perfectly!!! Love it, love it, love it!!

  10. Hi Michael, I too am lucky enough to have a view of woods behind my home. Often think of painting them but seems so complicated. You simplified them but captured the both the density and sense of light. Bravo!

  11. Hello Susan! So very good to hear from you! We are very lucky to have woods! I know you mentioned turkeys in your post! For some reason I haven't seen many this season!
    I miss them so much!
I am glad you enjoyed the painting. A challenge for me only using the old paint left on my palette. Now I am waiting for your woods painting! Take care Susan!
