"Eddie C's Old School Bar East Boston, MA USA"

Posted the unfinished version of this a few months ago.  Finally got around to finishing it this week. Hope to give it to Eddie over the holidays! Still working on a painting of the "newer Eddie C's!" Maybe that will be finished soon!

    1. Thank you Linda! I hope he does! Eddie is a very long time grammar school, high school and beyond friend. The bar is a very old school neighborhood establishment! That is what I wanted to capture the most in this work. Welcome home?

  2. Michael this is wonderful!! It has so much atmosphere. I can feel the coolness of the stonework and the footpath. I LOVE the colours - they all work so well together. I also love the great attention to detail - like the plastic lining in the bin. Eddie will be thrilled!
I hope you have a wonderfully Merry Christmas and a very arty New Year!!
Is it likely to be snowy? I would love to have a snowy Christmas one year but I don't know if I could handle the cold!

    1. G'Day mate! Hello Wendy! It is always wonderful to see your name on the comment section! Thank you so much for your many heartfelt comments! It is fantastic when somebody notices the goals I have for any piece! You nailed them all! Yippee! This magical pub is very dear to me because my very good friend for many, many years owns it and runs it! Eddie is one of those people who loves everyone and everybody loves him! Heart of gold! Funny, kind, very outgoing and so much more. He and I shared many exciting adventures in our teenage years. So funny! He is a retired Boston Police Officer, army veteran, great athlete and again so much more. I hope I did his "little pub" justice.
I love the snow!!! We have had a few beautiful storms already. I dressed as Santa Claus the other day to go out in the cold and ever so white snow to feed my bird buddies. I imagined the red Santa suit looked beautiful against the sparkling white! The neighbors got a kick out of it too! I think I am one of the few who get sad when the snow melts! I am always hoping for a white Christmas but today is warm 40 F (4.5 C?) and the snow has already started to melt! Because you are an artist and life loving I am sure you would love the snow. The colder the better. Going out into the cold snow makes coming into a warm house for a hot chocolate and freshly baked cookies very special!
I hope someday you get to experience snow!
Take care my hot weather Christmas Cobber!
(I wish I could send you some snow!)
      Your snow loving USA mate!

    2. Hi Michael,

Hopefully you will get a last minute fall of snow and get your white Christmas.
I have actually seen snow before when I spent a winter in the UK many years ago, but alas it didn't snow on Christmas day. I imagine I would have to visit a colder country than the UK to be guaranteed of getting a white Christmas. I did find the snow very beautiful and magical and would definitely like to experience it again sometime, but the thought of travelling in a northern hemisphere winter does seem daunting. Just the amount of clothes I'd need to pack is off-putting - but I will do it one day!!
My oldest daughter has just come back from visiting Japan and found it freezing. Unfortunately the only snow she saw was way off in the distance on a faraway mountain.
I can see why you love the snow so much! I will just have to enjoy it vicariously for now through hearing about it from you. Maybe you can post some photos. Would love to see one of those pretty red cardinals - they are a favourite of mine.
      Have a great Christmas!!
      Your art cobber Wendy

  5. Hello Celia! I know I already wrote that I love your cardinal painting! I do love it!!!
Thanks for your wonderful comments. I am always happy when I see your name and your smiling face! This art blogging thing has become so important to me because of all the special art friends I have made! I count you as one of them! I am glad this little painting prompted you to write about the bars character! That is one of the things I find so special about this fine little pub. It seems to have endured quite a bit over the years! It certainly was a fun place to hang out when I was in college. Even though we did spend time there as high schoolers we only went inside for Italian food! Mmmmm! The best! So happy that my former high school buddy bought it when he got older and kept this place going! Celia, is tripe popular in Italy? In East Boston when I was growing up it was very, very popular. I should try it sometime. Not sure why I never have!
Have the best holiday season ever!
    Michael

  7. Hello Joan! So very, very good to hear from you! I am so happy you like this one! I am so pleased you noticed the texture. I love texture in my work. I worked hard on creating the texture on the stone columns! Made my day that you noticed the texture! Thanks Joan for mentioning that! I am hoping to get to East Boston soon and hand deliver it to hime as a surprise. Happy Holidays Joan! Keep on painting your wonderful watercolors!

  8. Hey Michael, you made this like your version of "Cheers", so cheers to you! Glad you got around to finishing and posting it for us. Eddie is getting quite the home and memory spun gift. I like all the little touches you put into this work, this is unusual for you, a new direction? It has that nostalgia to it that only a regular could do!

(man! it got really cold here last week... I'm sure it dropped below 64 degrees!)

Your Freezing Cold So Cal Friend,
You and your wife (and friends) have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

    Keep painting...
